This Thanksgiving, let your turkey bring more than just the flavor—introduce a relaxing twist with an infused turkey recipe with cannabutter. It’s perfect for elevating your holiday spread (and mood). If you haven’t made your cannabutter yet, check out our How to Make Cannabutter (link) blog for step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

For the Turkey:

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 lbs)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup cannabutter (softened)
  • 2 lemons (zested and juiced)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp fresh rosemary (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 onion (quartered)
  • 1 lemon (quartered)
  • 3 sprigs each of rosemary, thyme, and sage

For the Basting Mixture:

Instructions

1. Prepare the Turkey

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and remove the neck and giblets (save them for gravy if desired).

2. Make the Herb Cannabutter Spread

  • In a bowl, mix the softened unsalted butter, cannabutter, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic, chopped rosemary, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper.

3. Apply the Butter

  • Gently separate the skin from the turkey breast by sliding your fingers under the skin, being careful not to tear it.
  • Rub the herb cannabutter mixture generously under the skin and over the turkey. Save some for the legs and thighs.

4. Stuff the Turkey

  • Stuff the cavity with the onion, lemon, and whole herb sprigs.

5. Roast the Turkey

  • Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
  • Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast for about 3 hours (or 15 minutes per pound).

6. Baste Regularly

  • Combine the chicken broth and melted cannabutter for basting.
  • Every 30 minutes, remove the turkey from the oven and brush it with the basting mixture.

7. Finish and Rest

  • Remove the foil during the last hour of cooking to allow the turkey to brown.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature—165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the breast and thigh means it’s ready.
  • Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving to lock in juices and allow the cannabis infusion to work its magic.

Tips for Serving

  • Pair with infused baked mac and cheese or infused cabbage for an extra special touch. (link to blogs)
  • Enjoy responsibly—know your dosage and ensure guests are informed about the infusion.

This infused turkey will not only be the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving table but also the highlight of the night! Happy Thanksgiving from our FLUENT family to yours! 🦃
