We’ll show you how to make cannabis olive oil using two different methods: with cannabis flower or tincture drops. Choose the method that works best for you! Keep reading to find out how to make cannabis infused olive oil.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup olive oil (extra virgin for the best flavor)
  • Option 1: 7-10 grams of cannabis flower (your choice of strain—indica, sativa, or hybrid depending on your desired effects)
  • Option 2: Cannabis tincture drops (CBD, THC, or a blend—depending on your desired potency and effects)
  • Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer (for flower method)
  • Double boiler or heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water
  • Grinder (for flower method)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Decarboxylate the Cannabis (Flower Method Only)

If you are using ground cannabis flower, you’ll need to decarboxylate it to activate the cannabinoids. If you’re using tincture, skip this step.

Instructions for decarboxylation:

  • Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C).
  • Coarsely grind your cannabis (don’t grind too fine to avoid making the oil grassy).
  • Spread the ground cannabis evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally for even heating.
  • Let it cool before proceeding with the infusion.

2. Prepare the Infusion

Now it’s time to infuse your olive oil. You can either use ground cannabis flower or tincture drops, depending on your preference.

Method 1: Infusing with Cannabis Flower

  1. Set up your double boiler or place a heat-safe bowl over simmering water.
  2. Pour in 1 cup of olive oil and allow it to warm up gently.
  3. Add your decarboxylated cannabis to the oil.
  4. Stir the mixture occasionally and maintain a low heat, keeping the temperature between 160°F-200°F (70°C-93°C). Avoid letting the oil get too hot.
  5. Let the mixture infuse for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.

Method 2: Infusing with Tincture Drops

  1. Set up your double boiler or place a heat-safe bowl over simmering water.
  2. Warm up 1 cup of olive oil as you would in the flower method, but skip adding cannabis flower.
  3. Once the oil is warm (but not too hot), remove from heat and add your desired amount of cannabis tincture drops. This could be anywhere from 10 to 30 drops, depending on the potency of your tincture and the desired strength of your infused oil.
  4. Stir well to evenly distribute the tincture into the oil.

3. Strain the Oil (Flower Method Only)

Once your flower-infused oil has finished infusing, it’s time to strain out the plant material.

Instructions for straining:

  • Allow the oil to cool slightly.
  • Place a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer over a jar or container.
  • Slowly pour the infused oil through the cheesecloth to filter out the cannabis.
  • Gently squeeze the cheesecloth to extract as much oil as possible.

4. Storage

Transfer your cannabis-infused olive oil into an airtight glass jar or bottle. Store it in a cool, dark place or the refrigerator. Properly stored, the oil can last up to 2-3 months.

Dosage Tips:

  • Flower Method: The potency will depend on the strain and amount of cannabis used. Start small when adding it to recipes until you understand its strength.
  • Tincture Method: Adjust the number of drops based on your desired potency. Most tinctures will have a guide on the bottle to help you determine the strength per drop.

Uses for Cannabis Olive Oil:

  • Drizzle over roasted veggies
  • Use as a base for salad dressings
  • Incorporate into pasta sauces or dips
  • Add to baked goods for an extra kick

Enjoy!

Whether you choose the traditional flower infusion or the tincture drop method, cannabis olive oil is an easy and versatile way to elevate your cooking. Experiment with different strains and tinctures to find the perfect balance of flavor and effects!

Feel free to customize the infusion process based on your cooking style and preferences. Enjoy your creations in the kitchen!
