Cannabis is renowned for its incredible aromas, effects, and connectivity. We all know it gets you nice and high, but every strain of cannabis also has its own personality, just like coffee or wine. A lot of this has to do with terpenes. Terpenes are the compounds found within cannabis glands called trichomes. Terpenes are what give each strain of cannabis its own aroma and flavor palette. Terpenes are the reason some strains are fruity or coniferous in scent or taste. There are over 200 terpenes in cannabis, so there are many ways cannabis is unique among its different strains.

What is Pinene?

That’s the power of pinene, baby. Pinene is a major type of terpene that, you guessed it, smells like pine needles. There are two kinds of pinene terpene. There is a-pinene, which is the classic conifer tree scent. There is also b-pinene which is more reminiscent of basil and dill. The terpene is fit for a gourmet chef.

Without terpenes or cannabinoids in general, you wouldn’t feel as many effects from marijuana use. Individual terpenes massively contribute to certain effects from smoking. Pinene has been shown to be effective in combating body discomfort and mood instabilities. It has even been reported it can open airways and fight short-term memory loss, which is why many cannabis users keep forgetting what they wanted to stream on Netflix. In the journal Inhalation Toxicology, a study was published showing pinene was therapeutic for bronchial illness and asthma. The journal Biologia published incredible research about a-pinene, delving into its potential as an anticancer agent. While results remain inconclusive, it is astonishing the possibilities terpenes have within the brain’s endocannabinoid system.

What Strains Have Pinene?

Pinene is one of the most common terpenes in cannabis, and therefore, easy to find in a strain. If you want to potentially take the edge off your anxiety, find a high-pinene strain such as Blue Dream, Moonrise Grove, FTH Mexican Lemonade, Original Blueberry, OG Kush. Ask Fluent Cannabis budtenders about a-pinene, and they will guide you to the right strain, whether it’s Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid.
