Jack Herer, often dubbed the “Cannabis Emperor” or “Emperor of Hemp,” was an American cannabis rights activist and author of the bestselling, self-published book, The Emperor Wears No Clothes.
He dedicated his life to decriminalizing and legalizing cannabis, and was one of the first to push for hemp to be used for industrial products, such as clothing and shoes. He also founded and served as the director of the impactful organization, Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP).
During his life of activism, he taught that the cannabis plant should be decriminalized and argued that it could be used as a renewable source of food, medicine, fuel, fiber, paper, and pulp. He educated citizens about the fact that hemp can be grown in any region of the world for medicinal or economical purposes. He further argued that the government knew the numerous benefits of hemp and purposely concealed the information.
